Fellow expats and friends in Los Cabos
Born in Tucson, Arizona, Korey Riggs has always wanted to know how to speak Spanish. This makes sense knowing that Tucson is only an hour north of the border. But of course, he didn’t actually learn Spanish until he was 27 years old. In college, he needed to speak a second language to graduate, so that was his calling to finally learn Spanish.
Sitting down with Korey in person, Nick reveals that they join together online to do a monthly real estate update in Korey’s radio show. They use Zoom versus meeting in person. Even though they do see each other in the local coffee shop from time-to-time, Nick decided to ask Korey to meet with him on his PODCAST to discuss wellness with a unique twist.
As they talk in the PODCAST, Korey tells Nick about the many foundations he’s been involved with. One important foundation helps the children of Baja Sur. Right now, the foundation is located in La Paz, with busses that run to and from there. Amazingly, theses busses have been running throughout the pandemic without pause.
Along with wanting to learn Spanish, Korey had the dream of working and living in Mexico. Starting with Mexico City back in 2007, Korey lived there for two years until moving to Los Cabos where he set up shop. As such, he’s been in Cabo for quite a while now. For his day job, Kory helps run some community foundations in Los Cabos, which is what he began with in Mexico City.
Preventative medical care from wellness practices
Korey tells Nick that he’s into breathing exercises, being a Yoga instructor. Today, Korey can hold his breath for four-and-a-half minutes. Also into breathing exercises, Nick can only hold his breath for three minutes. As such, he calls Korey mentor for breathing exercises. As you’ll see, cold water and ice are part of these practices.
As he explains in the video, Korey reveals what they do with ice and water, sometimes in a barrel. This is called “cold plunging.” When you enter this cold water, it strengthens your ability to control your breathing and holding your breath. Unbelievingly, Nick stays in the ice water for over 10 minutes.
Soon driving to Arizona, Korey is going there to buy an ice bath tub, which prepares cold water. Once he has it, he won’t have to get ice and pour it in every day for his exercise. That leads to something Korey also discusses – compression. As he explains, compression helps you to recover from a workout and it prevents heart disease.
