How Modu immigrated to the U.S. and Cabo
Originally from Senegal in Africa, the New Jersey was Modu’s first destination. He arrived there at the age of 18. After that, he stayed in Nebraska before going to Los Angeles. Nick’s first question for Modu was “why Nebraska?” Since Modu has a friend there, he stayed there for a time.
Nick and Modu laugh in the video about a few of Modu’s early experiences in the U.S. As an example, Modu mentions to Nick that he discovered Corn Flakes and loves eating them right out of the box. Also, he tells Nick that he doesn’t understand why people eat it with milk. As they laugh, he tells Nick about how he gets funny looks whenever he’s in public with his Corn Flakes box in-hand.
Modu’s experience in New Jersey
Soon after his arrival in New Jersey, Modu quickly realized how unprepared he really was to live there – he had no winter clothes. As the temperature dropped fast, he knew he was in trouble. In fact, that was the first snow he had ever seen. Cold and no money to his name, he needed to depend on others for a short time.
While chatting, Modu tells Nick about his adventures looking for work here and there. Being new to the culture and the language makes that very tough indeed. But after some time and persistence, Modu finally found work at Wendy’s – he calls the moment he got that job his life’s happiest moment.
Once he took the job at Wendy’s, Modu quickly took a second Job at another fast food restaurant. There, he worked the evening shift. Working two jobs, he saved money for an entire year – talk about working hard, right?
The University of Nebraska
Having some great math skills, Modu received his undergraduate degree at University of Nebraska in Computer Science. After that, he went for his Masters Degree, but he tells Nick that he had felt something was not right.
Although Modu had a great job after getting his Masters Degree, he never had time to work out to stay in shape. After sitting at a desk all day and into the evening, every day for quite some time, he realized that this wasn’t a healthy lifestyle.
Becoming a trainer in L.A. and Cabo
Being quite social – someone who loves to make connections, Modu quickly became the best trainer at each place he worked, starting with 24hr Fitness. As an instant success as a trainer, he moved to Cabo and set up shop. There, he created and grew his training business until he became known as the best trainer in Cabo.
