Check out the Arch of Cabo San Lucas at Land’s End

Welcome to a place of intrigue – The Arc of Cabo San Lucas AKA El Arco de Cabo San Lucas in Spanish.  To begin, this beautiful rock formation marks Land’s End.  The name comes from its location at the southern end of the Baja Peninsula.  It’s accessible by boat and it offers many great activities both in the water and out of the water.

Here, discover the amazing facts about El Arco de Cabo San Lucas and its two beaches with an intriguing history.  Then, learn why Jacque Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez “The World’s Aquarium.”  Now, continue reading to learn more about how this amazing place on the southern tip of Baja California Sur became so famous.

The Arch of Cabo San Lucas – El Arco

A long time ago, the Arch of Cabo San Lucas was known to be the end of the world.  That was because nothing but ocean can be seen to the south – it’s located at the southern end of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula.  Also known as a cape, this awesome limestone rock formation is awe-inspiring when you approach it.  And, when you look beyond it to the south, you can imagine why early settlers called this “Land’s End.”

After arriving there, discover the many sea creatures.  They include friendly sea lions that spend time bathing in the sun.  On your way to the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, your boat captain will inform you about everything you can expect to see.  As such, take many photos to bring back with you.  When it’s over, you’ll never forget this amazing adventure.

At the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, you’ll discover two beaches:  The Beach of Love – Playa de Amore in Spanish and Divorce Beach – Playa Divorcio in Spanish.  As you’d guess, Playa Divorcio is a dangerous place to swim and Playa de Amore is generally calm and it’s a great place to swim.

Though dangerous, Playa Divorcio is a great place for laying on beach.  Just don’t swim there.  Playa Divorcio has strong currents, crashing waves, and rip tides that can quickly pull you out to sea.  As such, don’t go into the water along this beach!  On top of those dangers, no lifeguards are present.

Discover the bio-diverse Sea of Cortez

Once called “The World’s Aquarium” by Jacque Cousteau because of its great biodiversity, the Sea of Cortez is the most biologically diverse body of water on Earth.  To explain, it supports over 900 varieties of fish.  And, it supports more than 2,000 species of marine invertebrates.  Also, It’s home to many endemic species, which are creatures that only exist there, and nowhere else on Earth.

You’ll find many sea creatures, the largest of which are the migratory whales.  And, these whales include humpbacks, California grays, and even orcas or killer whales.  Then, you’ll find giant whale sharks peacefully feeding on plankton.  Swimming next to these gentle creatures is an experience of a lifetime.

Next, find smaller sea creatures in the Sea of Cortez like dolphins, sea turtles, sea lions, tuna, sea bass, grouper, yellowtail, shark, marlin, scallops, lobster, snapper, shrimp and more.  Wow, that was quite a list.  These underwater creatures make snorkeling very exciting indeed.
