The reason Mike and Kathy Schnautz chose Cabo
Mike and Kathy visited Cabo after watching Nick’s video about the high season in San Jose del Cabo, along with many of his other videos. They fell in love with Cabo the moment they arrived. Then only two days later, they decided they wanted to live there permanently – their lightbulb moment.
There’s logic to living in Cabo
As Kathy explains to Nick during the PODCAST, they wanted to find a place that was fairly close to Texas. That way, it would only be a short two-and-a-half hour flight if they ever needed to get home quickly. She compares it to living in the United States, where you can be over two-and-a-half hours away.
Who are Mike and Kathy
New residents to the Cabo area, Mike and Kathy Schnautz met Nick Fong in their new neighborhood while Nick was out walking his dog. In the video, they laugh about the experience. When they met, Mike told Nick that he knew him from watching all of his YouTube videos.
Mike is from Austin Texas and Kathy is from west Texas. After suffering through the harsh winter of 2021, they decided to find a new, warmer place to live. Kathy tells Nick that they lost electricity, water, and heat for an extended period of time.
Why Texas is still their home
In the video, Nick asks Mike and Kathy about their family back in Texas. He asks if there are kids and grandkids there. Kathy tells Nick yes to both. Then, Nick asks them what their family thought about their move to Cabo. Mike responds that their family had mixed feelings about it.
Mike and Kathy tell nick that most of their family is very happy for them. But of course, some of their family is skeptical about their move to Mexico based on what they see on television. So Kathy tells Nick that it’s no less safe than the United States. Then, Mike tells Nick that he fells safer alone in downtown Cabo San Lucas than many cities in the U.S.
From the beginning, safety never entered their minds. Mike mentions how the people are friendly, smiling all the time, and always willing to help. Now, he just wants to fully learn Spanish so he can communicate better. In the video, the laugh about always using Google Translate.
