Welcome to The Nick Fong Podcast. In today’s episode, the founder and broker of Ronival Real Estate, Nick Fong, joins Lawrence and Edith from the Sarahuaro Foundation located in Cabo. As you’ll see in the video, this wonderful foundation assists both women and children within the Los Cabos region. Watch and see just how their work is so amazing — and discover how you can help too.
The Sarahuaro Foundation runs two primary programs. First, the foundation helps feed children in need while supporting their schooling. The second is a Women’s Center that empowers women to become self-sufficient and confident in their professional and personal lives. Read on to uncover more about this inspiring organization and how it strengthens the Cabo community.
The two Women’s Center sub-programs
As the heading suggests, there are two programs within the Women’s Center. The first is a Trade Skills Program for women — training them for a better future. Edith explains that participants can develop practical skills such as sewing and other trades, helping them build careers and achieve independence.
Additionally, the center offers English language classes, with 23 students currently enrolled. In a tourism-driven destination like Cabo, knowing English opens doors to better jobs and higher pay, especially for those working in hospitality, retail, and Cabo Real Estate.
About the Director of Sarahuaro – Edith
Edith’s passion for her work shines through. She explains that the name “Sarahuaro” comes from the saguaro cactus, symbolizing strength and endurance in the desert landscape of Baja California Sur. Founded in 2005, the Women’s Center grew over the years to include programs for children and families, all under Edith’s dedicated leadership.
Having lived in Los Cabos for about five years, Edith describes Cabo as a “beautiful place” — and she’s right. From the white-sand beaches to the vibrant communities of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, Los Cabos offers an unmatched quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
Simply involved and donating – Lawrence
Lawrence tells Nick how he became involved with Sarahuaro after discovering it as a tourist in Cabo. What began with a simple donation has grown into an active partnership. He and his wife, having been involved with similar charities in Canada, now support Sarahuaro’s efforts to make a lasting impact in Los Cabos.
