What a treat to get the inside information from the source. To explain, Rodrigo is the director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board. That means, he understands tourism in Los Cabos as an informed insider.
In this meeting of the minds, Nick and Rodrigo talk about what has occurred in the last few months. And, they discuss how tourism has been recovering after COVID-19. Rodrigo’s last conversation with Nick Fong
When they previously met, Rodrigo told Nick that the Los Cabos International Airport and most of the resorts would provide COVID-19 viral testing right on site. Also, he revealed that many of the Real Estate Agents and Property Managers in Cabo would be providing that service as well.
They revealed that the approximate cost of COVID-19 viral testing was about $35 USD, or around 700 Mexican Pesos. As this testing kicked into high gear after January 26, 2021, the cost was predicted to go down as the testing ramped up. Interestingly, Rodrigo mentioned that many hotels in Los Cabos provided testing as part of their nightly rate.
In that last interview, Nick Fong stated that many of his clients happen to be doctors. As such, he asked Rodrigo if those doctors could perform their own COVID-19 viral test. Rodrigo confirmed they could, provided they were qualified to perform and document the test properly.
What’s the latest about Cabo’s recovery from COVID-19
Watch the video as Rodrigo refers to the COVID-19 recovery as a “home run.” As he states, Cabo implemented testing for COVID within every property in Cabo. That means, you can get tested right at your hotel. That’s very convenient! Also, Rodrigo mentions that you won’t find that level of service offered at any other destination.
Cabo has offered the ability to eat outside. Visitors can dine on the patios of restaurants in the open air, enjoying the fresh Cabo ocean breeze. Restaurants across Los Cabos continue to uphold health accommodations that make guests feel very safe and comfortable.
Regarding tourism, Rodrigo says that Los Cabos has had its most successful summer ever. The numbers compared to 2019 — before the pandemic — were like this: May was up 10%, June up 20%, July up 25%, and August up 20%. What a recovery! That’s remarkable, considering 2019 was already a record year for Cabo Real and the broader region.
It has been reported by visitors that after landing at the Los Cabos International Airport, they felt extra safe everywhere they went. For example, shuttle drivers wore masks and offered hand sanitizer before boarding. Visitors noted that their accommodations were very clean, and restaurants across Cabo took temperatures at entry and provided hand sanitizer, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
